by Ah Yen on May 3rd, 2010 | Posted in eatgod™ | Tags: , ,

It is a know fact that the fishcakes or fish balls which we consume almost on a daily basis consists of additives to make them ‘bounce’ better. In fact the skill of making genuine fishcake or fish balls is considered a lost art to the culinary world. Right next to Shaw Parade in Jalan Changkat Thambi Dollah, Kuala Lumpur, there is a shop which according to them still maintains the traditional way of making fishcake without additives – Ah Koong’s Eating House.

eatgod™ @ Goon Wah Kuchai Lama XO Fish Head Mee Hoon & Claypot Low She Fun

by Ah Yen on April 12th, 2010 | Posted in eatgod™ | Tags: , , , ,

I’ve been hearing about this spot in Kuchai Lama where they are touted to serve the best fish head mee hoon and the best clay pot low she fun in the whole of Klang Valley. Curiosity got the best of me and I eventually ended up in this shop lot on Jalan 3/115c in Kuchai Lama. You wouldn’t expect an eatery to be part of these flats. I didn’t either until my friend pointed it out to me one day.

You won’t miss it if you look out for a row of semi-rundown shop lots with clothes hanging out the windows on the higher floors. Goon Wah Restaurant is right smack in the middle flanked by workshops on both sides. Plastic chairs and tables are  set up all along the walkway, patrons enjoying their lunch while the workshop mechanics go about their repairs less than 5 feet away.

by Ah Yen on September 13th, 2009 | Posted in eatgod™ | Tags: , , ,

A weekend with eatgod never goes by without good food. A few weeks back, eatgod brought me Salak old town for some YTF!

Yes it’s YTF – yong tau fu not WTF!. This place was not far from where we were staying, just around 5 minutes drive. Exiting Kuchai Lama and heading towards the highway, you would need to turn off the main road and up a ramp. Just past the ramp and you will find yourself in Salak old town. The shop is called Fatty Mok’s Hakka Yong Tau Fu. For your convenience, here are the coordinates – 03° 5′ 3.67″ N, 101° 41′ 40.91″ E.
