A weekend with eatgod never goes by without good food. A few weeks back, eatgod brought me Salak old town for some YTF!

Yes it’s YTF – yong tau fu not WTF!. This place was not far from where we were staying, just around 5 minutes drive. Exiting Kuchai Lama and heading towards the highway, you would need to turn off the main road and up a ramp. Just past the ramp and you will find yourself in Salak old town. The shop is called Fatty Mok’s Hakka Yong Tau Fu. For your convenience, here are the coordinates – 03° 5′ 3.67″ N, 101° 41′ 40.91″ E.

eatgod and I ordered prawn mee, curry mee with pork ribs and an assortment of yong tau fu. The prawn mee serving was small and not filling. Luckily we ordered extra yong tau fu as side dishes, else eatgod would have digested all the food by the time we reached home.

The curry mee with pork ribs were all right but the curry taste lacked some saltiness and kau-ness. The ribs were cut to just the right size with enough meat on it for you to chew off. Pairing the pork ribs with the chili paste was absolutely heavenly. The thick paste and its aroma complimented the pork ribs, enhancing the flavor of the curry.

The yong tau fu is packed and filled to the brim with fish paste. The soup is sweet and filled with the ‘umami‘ taste, good enough to be used as broth. I couldn’t detect any MSG in the soup, so Fatty Mok passed the test. The price came to about RM23. That’s like 12 bucks per person with drinks. Not a bad deal but the food could have been better. Somehow or rather, Fatty Mok still can’t beat the one in Puchong. Nevertheless if you are nearby Kuchai area, you should visit Fatty Mok. Even Hong Kong stars like Kenny Bee and the Grasshoppers have been there!
