eatgod™ @ New Happy Garden Ming Kee Char Gor Snacks

One of the local haunts off Old Klang Road is Ming Kee at New Happy Garden which is famous for it’s teatime snacks namely yau char kwai, ham chin peng, ma kiok, chai kueh, etc. Just off Jalan Mesra Ria, Ming Kee is always packed in the afternoon where the locals flock there for a quick snack.

The place is kinda cool and shady even on a hot blazing afternoon. I’m not sure how accurate Google Earth is but according to them, Ming Kee sits on Jalan Perisa. If you turn off Jalan Mesra Ria onto Jalan Perisa, look out for a row of stalls on your right, head on to the last stall and you will find the infamous stall. Alternatively you can use the GPS coordinates 3° 4’36.43″ N, 101°40’47.24″ E which I got off my phone GPS.

As you can see there’s an assortment of fried snacks at Ming Kee at your disposal. All of them freshly prepared on the spot. The yau char kwai, ma kiok and ham chin peng are especially delicious. The rest of the snacks are just so-so. Some of the other available choices are carrot cake, yam cake and chai kuehTong sui is available too if you are the type to dip your fried delicacy in sweet soup, but they are nothing to shout about. I tried their green bean tong sui and their bubur cacar but sad to say these do not deserve special mention.

The specialty of Ming Kee is quite obvious. As long as the snack is deep fried, then you can be assured that it will taste good. What makes it special – this is IMHO only – is that Ming Kee’s snacks do not reek of the recycled-frying-oil-smell. That is by far the greatest selling point of Ming Kee – also IMHO only :p

Nevertheless the snacks are good at Ming Kee. So good that eatgod could not resist coming over to tapau AFTER he turned down my offer to tapau some for him :) Come over and give the yau char kwai and the ma kiok a try – eatgod approved!

What say you? If you have been there do let us know what you think by dropping a comment and rate the place!

The 'mak juk' oatmeal and hak lo mai isn't too bad. I don't come too often, because once I do I will have the dessert, the fried snacks AND fried meehoon in one sitting. A very artery clogging diet.

bapester: Yeah those were quite good as well. Probably I should update this post when I have more pics ;) Artery clogging? Hahaha anything without pork is not qualified! LOL
