Upgraded To WordPress 2.8.5 And…

by Ah Yen on October 30th, 2009 | Posted in Blog | Tags: ,

I upgraded to WordPress 2.8.5 for the security fix recently and the next thing I knew was my layout was all haywire and my feeds don’t work anymore!

I am trying to resolve it as soon as possible and I’ll share my findings here ;)

*Update – Apparently there were white spaces in my feed making it invalid. I got rid of it by following these instructions . Cool!

Here are some jokes kick-start your weekend!

Top Joke in Australia

A young man went to his father one day to tell him that
he wanted to get married.

His father was happy for him. He asked his son who the
girl was, and he told him that it was Samantha, a girl from
the neighborhood.

With a sad face the old man said to his son,
”I’m sorry to say this son but I have to. The
girl you want to marry is your sister, but please don’t tell your  mother.”

The young man again brought three more names to his
father but ended up frustrated because the response was
still the same.

So he decides to go to his mother.
”Mom I want to get married but all the girls that
I love, dad said they are my sisters and I mustn’t tell you.”

His mother smiling said to him,
”Don’t worry my son, you can marry any of
those girls.  You’re not his son.

ahyen Almost Died…

by Ah Yen on October 13th, 2009 | Posted in Blog | Tags: ,

My blog – not me – but it was close enough.

I accidentally deleted my posts especially those of late. I really felt heartbroken as it took me a lot of effort to edit the photos, add the effects and the hardest part was to pen them in a nice and presentable manner. If they were really lost, all those comments by my friends would have been gone as well T_T.

The last time something like this happened, I practically gave up on blogging. I went into like blogging hibernation and took me quite a while to start back up again. For something like this to happen yet again to me was 10% bad luck and I guess 90% stupidity (yes most of it is my own fault for messing with the settings before backing up my data).

Luckily for me exabytes always backs up their database and their online support was top notch! They helped me recover most of my posts and I only lost 1 draft copy.

I am very thankful to chiaoju for recommending exabytes and not some crappy online web hosting service. The lesson learnt here is of course…

No 1 – Backup all your posts frequently

&

No 2 – Sign up to a reliable online web hosting service

because life is like a box of chocolates :) it is better to be safe than sorry.

P/S: Nope this is not a recruitment drive for exabytes.

I Need Internet…

by Ah Yen on September 28th, 2009 | Posted in Blog | Tags: , ,

I badly need an internet connection at home.

I have so many backdated posts in my draft box which I’m struggling to push out but work at the office is piling up. I only managed to push out the Salak yong tau fu review today after many delays. Not only that, blogging from the office doesn’t feel so right anymore.

All right. Thats it! The next thing on my to-do list will be hunting for a temporary internet connection!

Digi broadband sounds good – no commitments so I can change to Streamyx or P1 anytime I like. Hmm…interesting…

Life, Randomness And A Lil’ Bit Of Serendipity

by Ah Yen on September 9th, 2009 | Posted in Blog | Tags: ,

A few months back I started my new job in Kuala Lumpur working for an office furniture company in The Gardens and that meant I had to shift all my stuff from Penang to Kuala Lumpur. Imagine that I had so much stuff to shift that I had to make two trips between KL and Penang. I didn’t know I had so much stuff until I actually took these pictures with my Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.

Enhancement

by Ah Yen on August 19th, 2009 | Posted in Blog | Tags:

Hmm… I’m currently editing some of my older posts to contain more ‘substance’. Some of the posts have videos or pictures only and somehow I feel that makes ahyen.com a bit shallow. I’m the type who likes to share my experiences and love to motivate people so I’m adding some of my life experiences to them.

Let’s see how this will impact my readers (if any :p).
