As Dorothy would put it, there really is no place like home.
I hail from a small town called Kuantan which is bestowed with a long stretches of beaches. The town of Kuantan is the capital of the state Pahang, which in turn is situated on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Thats just about it. I can’t tell you anymore details about Kuantan because I know whack about it. Don’t ask me where to get the best bite in Kuantan because I wouldn’t know. My list of Kuantan’s best bites would probably yield a count of less than my 10 fingers.
Why? Haha that’s because as a kid I was not the type that hang out with friends. Most of my meals were taken at home where my ma would cook. So during my pre-university life I would most likely be classified as a NERD.
After Form 5 I spent most of my time studying and working away from home. Amidst my busy schedule, I would look forward to travelling home and spending some time in quiet little Kuantan. My home was my holiday villa, serene and peaceful. You’d be surprised how quiet it is.

peaceful Jalan Mahkota
Or should I say, WAS.
You see, Kuantan being the capital of Pahang and one of the bigger and more developed towns in the east coast, its not surprising that major development has found its way into this town. Every trip back home there would be a new building or construction site waiting to greet me. Traffic now has grown tremendously, filling up the streets every time the traffic light turns red. The traffic light queue to the main road extends up to my doorstep and my house is at least 3 turns away from the main!
There is no use denying it. Kuantan is all grown up now. Sigh.
A recent addition to my hometown in the new East Coast Mall. This is THE largest mall in Kuantan and the size is just one-third of Queensbay Mall. Don’t be fooled by its size. Among the resident shops are Parkson and Carrefour! Popular brands who chose to invest in ECM are Quicksilver, Padini Concept Store, MNG and even Crocs! ECM is expecting more brands and I bet my sis can’t wait!
I started wondering if there was a traffic light in the mall when I saw a long queue at one of the shops. People were crowding up the area and I was curious to find out why.

a rare sight in Kuantan
I followed the line to the front of the shop and guess what I found?
DONUTS!
That’s right! Of all things! DONUTS!

Big Apple Donuts & Coffee has landed in Kuantan
Big Apple Donuts & Coffee opened up in East Coast Mall and surprisingly it was flocked! I bet Dunkin’ Donuts must be dunkin’ their nuts right now. Just look at the amount of people lining up just to get their hands on a piece. Some are having take-away, some eating-in while surfing the free Wi-Fi. Gosh. This was really a sight.
FYI Kuantanese don’t really like to wait around for their food. If they see more than 3 groups of people waiting around for a place to sit, they would rather eat elsewhere. Kudos to Big Apple Donuts. You have made the impossible possible. For a moment there I thought I was back in Penang queueing up for Lorong Selamat char kuay teow!

I saw the same queue in Sunway Pyramid for JCo. DONUTS as well! What’s with these people and donuts huh? Crazy man…
dont know la witch.some how malaysians are crazy bout donuts nowadays, especially if its not dunkin’ donuts…
